Siyanda Win in Court
The Struggle Against Corruption and Transit Camps Continues

Waiting on the steps of the Durban High Court

Today eight orders were granted in favour of Abahlali baseMjondolo in the Durban High Court. The orders that have been granted are a breakthrough. We can call this a landmark judgment because the orders provide for judicial oversight of the new and entirely notorious phenomenon of the transit camp – also known by the government as decant areas in Jo’burg, as temporary relocation areas in Cape Town and as amatins, blikkies and government shacks by the people. However while it is progress to get judicial oversight over the transit camps our aim is to eradicate them entirely. We will not claim victory until this has been achieved.

A government that is a danger to the people

THE degeneration of the ANC has reached the point where it poses a clear and present danger to the integrity of society.

Julius Malema is one of the more flamboyant examples of how a movement committed to national liberation has become, in the words of Frantz Fanon, "a means of private advancement". But Malema is hardly alone. The Communication Workers Union is entirely correct to have diagnosed an "embedded and deep-seated Kebble-ism" within the ANC.

JOHANNESBURG — The national Housing Department had been cheated out of at least R26 million by state employees who obtained housing subsidies fraudulently, the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) said yesterday.

Another 2 150 government employees are still under investigation for possible fraud, said SIU deputy head Faiek Davids.

He was briefing the media in Johannesburg on a broad forensic probe into housing corruption, which he said would run into 2012 and would also look at nepotism, fraud and corruption in tender processes.
